Community Code of Conduct

Last updated: 26 January 2021

Sharesies’ purpose is to create the most financially empowered generation. We believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to grow their wealth.

“If we ‘share the aroha/love’ by giving someone the opportunity to invest, learn, and feel supported, then they’ll be more likely to do the same for another person—creating a community of financially empowered people.”

— Sharesies Integrated Report 2020

One of the ways we ‘share the aroha/love’ is by creating spaces to talk and learn about money and investing. We do this through our Platform, social media channels, webinars, and hosted events. We want each of these spaces to be safe and empowering. So whether you’re part of our investing community online or in person, here’s how we ask that you interact with us and each other.

If your behaviour breaches this code, we may give you a warning, remove you from our space, or suspend or close your Sharesies account under the General Terms and Conditions. If your behaviour is against the law, we may also report you to the police.

Be accountable for your actions

Conduct yourself honestly on the Platform and in other spaces we create. Represent yourself using your name or alias in our spaces and don’t impersonate other members of our community or Sharesies. Publish only accurate, informed information and avoid spreading misinformation that could mislead or influence other investors. Respect the kaupapa and make sure your actions and communication don’t prevent others from learning about money.

Treat others with kindness

Kindness is key in the Sharesies whānau and we expect our community to act in good faith. Be kind to each other and be kind to any staff you interact with at Sharesies. We’re real people—not robots! We’ll try to resolve any issues in a way that’s transparent and fair to everyone involved. If you feel we haven’t met this expectation, you may contact our Financial Services Complaints provider.

Embrace difference

We expect our community to respect one another and our staff and embrace our unique differences. We have no tolerance for racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, threatening, predatory or bullying behaviour, or any action that’s likely to cause offence or harm. We create inclusive spaces to bring together new and established investors with differing levels of financial knowledge.

Respect each other’s privacy

Respect the privacy of our staff and other members of our community. Any reports of unsolicited communication, including contacting staff members on social media, will be taken very seriously. Do not ask staff or community members to share their personal information, social media account details, or provide investment advice to you. If you’re a member of our community and have received an unwanted message from another member, please reach out to our team. Contact us by private message on social media, through the Platform or send an email to help@sharesies.co.nz.

Sharesies may change this Code of Conduct at any time without notice.
